Spring cleaning

by Alacoque

Hi Tillie & folks,

this morning while I was sitting in the backyard after our morning walk, and Willa was rolling around enjoying her nappy-free time, I looked around and realised spring has sprung early. Even my water lily is breaking the surface in our fountain.

Of course course spring means spring cleaning and I thought it was high time I pulled my bike out in preparation for her new baby seat. Camilla, my lovely bicycle, was dirty. Really dirty. She was covered in grime and cobwebs. In fact she’d become a real spider hotel.

Lets take a closer look at that spider shall we? I still can’t believe it was living in my fake flowers!

So I evicted the spiders and dusted the whole bike down before giving it a good old scrub and left it to dry in the sun. It’s already sparkling and ready for it’s first spring ride this weekend. Here’s a little bell before and after:

To market, to market!

by Alacoque

Dear Tillie,

I received some good news late this morning and decided to celebrate by surrendering to my cravings and heading to the fish markets for lunch. The ride down was surprisingly busy with traffic, I’m not sure why considering the time of day, but I took advantage of the empty park footpath when things got a little too hairy. (Isn’t it sad that our beautiful parks are empty in Spring school holidays yet the roads are full?)

My fish and chips were lovely and I enjoyed them despite the disapproving stares of other women (the constant intrusive opinions of others when you’re pregnant never ceases to amaze me, don’t worry I know which fish I can and can’t eat while pregnant!). The weather was quite warm today and the clouds and sun toyed with each other all morning. As soon as I finished lunch the sun won out making for a very pleasant ride to the Post Office and home again.

I thought I give you a photo update on the belly situation. It’s really out there now! I’m 31 weeks pregnant and though I still love riding I am definitely slowing down. Having said that I’m a hell of a lot faster on the bike than when I waddle anywhere!

Being Spring I should probably give the poor old bike a spring clean. Those flowers are looking a bit sad.

Fancy flowers

by tillieandcoco

Dear Tillie,

there was a special event at the Gallery this morning and afterwards we had to get rid of all the flowers. We gave away as many as we could to the public but there were still a few bunches left when it was time for me to go home for the day. These gorgeous bright things were just sitting there waiting for me to take them home. Of course I already had a full basket so they were placed, somewhat unceremoniously, in my cup holder.

Whilst stopped at the lights I couldn’t help but admire the afternoon sunlight on the flowers so here’s an extra pic (I didn’t quite capture the beautiful light but I’m sure you get the gist!).

They survived the trip home and are now more appropriately housed in a vase on my coffee table. Though I do think there is something wonderful about bikes and flowers, whether they are decorating baskets or simply being carted home in them!

Ps. On the ride home a P-plater (provisional driver for all you folk overseas) made fun of my indication by mimicking my hand gesture as he drove past. At least he saw me, right? Apparently all those years of gymnastics have stuck and I may need to be more conscious of my girlie hands in the future!

Psychic Bike

by tillieandcoco

Dear Tillie,

So I was wandering the streets of Newtown today, on foot as I still haven’t fixed my flat, and I came across this lovely bike:

It belongs to Psychic Sarah, a tarot reader who works at Pure Botanicals in Newtown. I’ve seen the bike many times and have even had a couple of readings by Psychic Sarah (she’s awesome if you’re into that kind of thing btw) but I’d never thought to snap a pic of her bike before. Unfortunately the lighting was all wrong so I couldn’t get a good photo without running onto the road. Luckily she has some much better pictures on her website and even goes on to describe all the different decorations adorning her lovely bike. One thing I love is the frame covered in chunky silver glitter! And I always love flowers on baskets. The tarot cards in the spokes are a very appropriate touch considering the bike also doubles as advertising!
